In his initial research on the subject, he learned that it typically takes anywhere from three to six months to achieve certification as a pilot. Undeterred, Huettenbach continued researching and discovered that a flight academy located in the Czech Republic’s capital of Prague offered a 30-day certification option for candidates meeting the necessary qualifications.
Huettenbach then made his way to the Eastern European city, displaying a palpable excitement. During his first few days attending the academy, he expressed tremendous jubilation about hopping into a small plane and taking rides over Prague. On these excursions, he learned about the aircraft’s controls and how each component functioned.
Reality Sets In
Several days into the trip, however, Huettenbach’s enthusiasm was tempered somewhat. Instruction turned into classroom lectures on various aviation topics and flight theory. The influencer found this boring and did not enjoy the fact that he had to put in significant amounts of time studying and committing this material to memory.
Despite not liking the classroom learning part of his instruction, Huettenbach continued to enjoy the experience. That said, he displayed some dismay at learning that he could not be given certification until he successfully passed a test covering the topics he learned in class.
Toward the end of the 30-day stint, he took this exam. A successful outcome necessitated that he pass all nine theory sections of the test. Unfortunately, he failed one. At this point, he admitted to his viewers and himself that he would not earn his pilot’s license within 30 days.
The Ultimate Triumph
As a testament to his will and fortitude, Huettenbach did not quit. He admitted that the 30-day deadline was harder than he thought it would be and committed himself to studying the theory components again. After devoting many a sleepless night to mastering crucial information, he retook the exam and passed with flying colors.
Only one obstacle remained. To receive full certification, he needed to successfully complete a solo test flight plotting a route using a map and completing critical tasks like calculating landing routes. With calmness and confidence, Huettenbach completed the flight and received licensure 40 days after beginning.
“The experience was excruciating and rewarding at the same time,” he said. “I learned valuable lessons and admit I need more practice before flying with passengers.”
